Two straight nights the Big East has shown its depth and strength to the national audiences on ESPN. West Virginia becomes the second straight team that is under .500 in league play to dominate a ranked team at home in as many nights. Da’Sean Butler led the way with a career high 43 points for WVU, this after he was held to just four points and zero rebounds against Pitt on Monday. Butler’s 43 were the most points scored in a Big East game since Marcus Hatten scored 44 for St. John’s in March of 2003. Neither teams seeding if immediately affected by last night’s outcome, however Villanova falls a full 1½ games behind a 3-way pack for the final 2-day bye in New York. West Virginia moves into a tie with Syracuse and one game behind Providence and Cincinnati in a battle for a first day bye in New York.
