The
Rant will be your daily site to find out exactly how your team stacks up
against the rest of the conference as we creep closer to the Big East
Tournament in New York City, which begins March 12th.
Picking
up from yesterday’s “Moving Day” theme, today two teams had the opportunity to
both gain ground and muddle up the rest of the conference standings. Neither team were able to do so. Let’s take a look at how the conference looks
after this crazy weekend.

#- Clinched Opening Round Bye
YESTERDAYS RECAP:
Pitt- 63St. John’s- 47
Pitt snapped a 2 game losing streak by dominating St. John’s on their home court. After only being up by 3 at halftime Pitt turned to their defense in the second half to preserve the lead. The Panthers held St. John’s to their lowest scoring output of the season and the fewest points they have scored since January of 2010. St. John’s shot just 31% and D’Angelo Harrison, who entered the game as the conferences 3rd leading scorer was held to 1-12 shooting and 6 points. St. John’s was within 3 with 12 minutes remaining, but Pitt ended the game on a 21-8 run. Pitt is now in line for the 6-seed, but is only 1 ½ games away from moving into the top 4 which receive a double bye in New York. In their final 3 games, Pitt plays 2 at home and should be favored in all 3. St. John’s has already clinched an opening round bye in New York and will battle it out for seeding the rest of the way. The Johnnies play 2 road games against Providence and Notre Dame before finishing at home with Marquette.
Notre Dame- 62
Cincinnati- 41Notre Dame held their opponent to under 42 for the 2nd time this week. The Irish jumped out to a 29-15 halftime lead and never looked back. Cincinnati has now lost 5 of 6 after winning 5 of 6 earlier in the season. At one point in the season the Bearcats looked to be eyeing a double bye in New York, but as of today they are sitting in 10th place, the last spot to an opening round bye. The road doesn’t get any easier for Cincinnati as they have UCONN and Louisville as their next 2 opponents before closing the season with South Florida. Notre Dame stayed hot with the home win yesterday, their 7th win in their last 9 conference games. The Irish still have their eyes set on a double bye in New York, as they are just one half game out of 4th place and have a head-to-head match-up with Marquette coming up on Saturday.
